Abstract
We present Oracle, a protocol for the issuance and settlement of European-style options on arbitrary SPL tokens, denominated and cash-settled in SOL. Each market is backed by a dedicated counterparty pool whose free collateral bounds the aggregate maximum payout of all open contracts, yielding a fully collateralized system with zero counterparty default probability and no socialized loss. Contracts carry a capped linear payoff, which admits closed-form valuation under a lognormal base model by static replication against vanilla strikes. Premiums are computed from a Black-Scholes kernel parameterized by realized volatility, a parametric skew surface in log-moneyness and tenor, and proprietary corrections for the leptokurtic, right-skewed, jump-dominated return distributions characteristic of early-stage tokens. Settlement references a time-weighted, manipulation-resistant settlement oracle. Markets are initializable at token genesis, extending derivative coverage to the segment of the Solana market where realized volatility is highest and instrument coverage has historically been absent.
Problem Statement
Long-tail SPL token markets are among the most active venues in decentralized finance by transaction count, yet the instrument set available to participants is degenerate: the attainable payoff space is spanned by a single linear instrument. Formally, the only payoff attainable is
where denotes the spot price of the underlying in SOL at entry, the spot price at horizon , and the signed position size. Since , no convex or concave exposure can be constructed. Three classes of exposure are consequently unavailable:
- Convex directional exposure. Leveraged upside with loss bounded by an upfront premium rather than the full notional.
- Downside hedging. Protective payoffs for holders who are unable or unwilling to unwind spot inventory, including deployers and long-horizon holders.
- Volatility exposure. Positions whose value is a function of rather than its sign.
Existing Solana derivative venues list only high-capitalization assets with deep external price discovery. Tokens in their initial trading window possess neither, and are therefore excluded during the interval in which realized volatility, and hence demand for optionality, is maximal.
Contribution
Oracle introduces permissionless, fully collateralized European-style options on any SPL token from genesis. Any party may initialize a market by seeding a counterparty pool; any party may then purchase calls or puts against that pool. The resulting payoff set is nonlinear in ; for example, the call payoff is
